tattling all about JJ Ellis's new release Fate's Encore. After less than a week, post-holiday reviews are percolating, and the buzz is up on this unique love story. One Goodreads reviewer says "Absolutely brilliant! I loved this book from the start; it made me lauch and cry, and was so beautifully written. I didn't want to put it down."
In the words of Emma Thompson in an interview about Last Chance Harvey in which she starred with Dustin Hoffman, “I want to see people who actually are actually believed to exist and who are…like me, falling in love who aren’t perfect, who aren’t so beautiful…but you don’t see love stories about that, you just see very beautiful people falling in love with each other and I’m just bored, bore witless, I don’t care, [and] I fear I’m not alone…”
Well, Emma, you’re not alone, and no one was more excited to read a baby boomer love story for a change.
There is so much to enjoy about Jack and Evie’s story. On one hand, readers might be pleasantly surprised to find that all the elements of a great love story apply to and older couple just as certainly as they do to the younger set.
One of the things I loved best about Jack and Evie’s relationship was their chemistry. Folks, it’s either there or it isn’t regardless of the ages of the hero and heroine, and these two have it in spades. Their attraction is instant, and it’s not because of their shared history.
And speaking of which, the time hops and backgrounds of Jack and Evie’s stories weavema wonderful tapestry in which for them to come together.
My other favorite element is the letters between Jack and Evie. If done well, it’s a convention that never gets old. And it’s a beautiful way for them to hold on until they can meet!
There is so much to love about this book. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve said it before, this is not your momma’s romance---it’s better!
